Some of the cast have appeared in the original (1963-89) and revived (2005-present) series of "Doctor Who", most notably star Martin Clunes, who made his TV debut on it in 1983 and Louise Jameson (Eleanor Glasson in Doc Martin in 2011) who had her big TV break as Leela from 1977 to 1978.
